Liz began her career as a traffic and weather anchor at WBTV in Charlotte, North Carolina. In 2006, Liz was crowned Miss North Carolina, and went on to compete in the 2007 Miss America Pageant in Las Vegas, Nevada. During her year of reign, she focused her efforts on raising awareness and funding for those suffering with autism. Liz is studying meteorology at Mississippi State University and will earn her degree soon. Prior to studying at MSU, Horton received degrees from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University and the Carolina School of Broadcasting.

In her free time, Liz enjoys spending time with her husband, Jonathan, and their rescue dogs Rocky and Ziggie, both Boston Terriers.
